The thing dripped out the gasket and I was checking the drain screen at the bottom. It was packed with crud so I removed it and cleaned it. It was mostly white flakes of the rubber the rusting racks are coated with. Found a lot more under it and packed into the water jet. I had not realized I had never cleaned this thing since we bought it....20 years!

My wife rinses all the dishes very good before we stack them in there so that would explain the lack of food crap in there.

I had a 15 year old GE dishwasher start leaking from underneath, turns out in their wisdom they used a rubber like material to make the entire underside where all the pumps etc connect.

It was disolving and had spring a leak. 20.00 later and it's good for another 20 years.

If you want to be grossed out... Pull the drum out of your cloths washer!

I been into this houses plumbing more than I'd like already. Agreed, hair balls pulled up with a drain snake are nasty.
