I,m restoring a 72 Plymouth Duster 340 I bought new in 1971. Is the power steering gear box natural cast or painted black from the factory?

I believe all power boxes were painted black. The paint was very cheap and didn't last long. This is the case with B and E bodies. That's why I assume A bodies are the same. Someone with more A body knowledge should chime in.
After degreasing the box, I would soak it in EvapoRust. That will get rid of the rust and if it was painted, you should see some traces of black paint.
