Color sanding????

Hi all. Only been on this great site for a short while now and have seen this term " color sand " come up a few times now and don't know what it refers to.Ive been doing body and paint for 30 years and started out using lacquer Yes ,paint, primer,and god forbid PINK PUTTY.No mig welders torch welded everything. So what is "color sand".

color sand, or wet sanding the color coat/clear. spray the paint and color sand it so get out the orange peel, so 800, 1200, 1500, 2K, 3K grits.
 
color sanding, ummm. Remember when you sanded between coats when doing lacquer? Well basically its the same thing except these days we color sand the clearcoat before we buff using 1500 and sometimes 2000

Yep Hot lines remember all to well LOL!!!!!
 
Works for solid colors, but another coat is required with metallic colors obviously.. never really seen any need for it other than the possible dirt nib here and there.

Yeah me too i never had orange peel problems it's all on how you lay it down!!
