Column shaft

I have a floor shift column in my car, 72 Dart. The bottom part of the shaft that goes into the box coupler is round and looks to be welded into the steering column. Can I cut the weld and pull the round shaft out and weld dd shaft in its place?

I don't know what "dd shaft" is but yes there is a small continuous weld all the way around. This is where the OEM shafts became finished to manual steering type or power steering type ( That end piece was made in 2 different lengths and spline sizes ). Weld whatever so long as its straight when finished.
