I'm working on my 69 barracuda notchback and noticed something strange. When I bought the car it was a auto on the column but had bucket seats in it. I just assumed that the previous owner swapped out the bench for the buckets as he was intending to installed a console shifter. After looking over the fender tag the car was a factory bucket seat car with shifter on the column. How odd/rare is that combo?

I had a 68 fastback years ago that had buckets and a column shift. Old man owned it prior to me. Had original faded to shit carpet in it. My current 67 notch was originally a slant sux, manual 3 on the tree bench seat car.

As mentioned on another forum, one of my 4-doors has buckets & column shift.

Buckets with no console are fairly common.

My 69 Fastback has column shift bucket seat option. ALso had a 72 340 Cuda and 70 Road Runner all with column shift and bucket seats

Although my 67 B'cuda vert project did have the console, My plan for it was buckets with column shift. Maybe a removable aftermarket center console that included raised arm rest, cup holders. Beyond hiding the floor shifter mechanical, the OEM console is worthless.
Oh wait... In a vert one could let the top down and have a grilled cheese samich off it. Hold my cup. LOL

Didn't realize they were so common. I just assumed that if it had buckets it made sense to have a console shifter to take up the space between the seats. Guess I never really paid that much attention to interiors before.

There was a buddy seat option also. Those are offered for sale here sometimes.

My 72 Charger factory 400-4 32.23 SG car is buckets and column shift.

@Alaskan_TA - what 4D do you have that's a bucket seat car? Cop car?

Buckets and buddy seat with column shift was pretty common on B body cars but A body didn't get buddy seat until Valiant brougham/Dart SE in 75 IIRC, and the 4D version of that could have buckets/buddy/column shift.

I've also seen at least one F body wagon with buckets and column shift.

My 69 Charger SE had column shift with buckets and buddy seat. Keeping the buddy seat, but changing to 4spd. Car is not matching,... no build sheet or fender tag and original motor and trans were long gone before I bought it YEARS ago, so I am building it how I want it.

My 76 dart is column shift, buckets with the buddy seat.
Didnt know it was so uncommon.
Was going to put in console but the unusual option has changed my mind.

Sounds like the build for my 65 Dart wagon - 66 A Body buckets with a B Body buddy seat - yes, it easily fits since the buddy seat is the same basic width as the factory coffin console). It’ll be finished with a 4 speed.

In general, consoles were an option on most old Mopars. They were mandatory if you wanted an automatic on the floor. Auto trans would have column shift unless you checked the console option. My 69 'cuda340 has a 4 speed and the standard bench seat with center fold down armrest. And headrests since it was built after Jan 1, 1969.
I'm with the poster above, consoles are a waste in old mopars. And, they are dead weight.

I had an all original '70 barracuda Gran Coupe that had buckets and auto on column back in the eighties
