Combination for a peppy 340

Looks nice! Will your lifters come out with the heads on? I have the same lifters in a 273 and they will come out with the heads on. Some have reported that the Morels won't come out with aftermarket heads. No biggie either way, but try it if you don't have the intake on yet and you'll know if you ever decide to swap cams.
I don’t think I can with the Edelbrock heads but I’m sure something could be “engineered” to keep the lifters up so the cam can be pulled. I think the springs on these heads support .575 lift. So I can’t go a ton larger. Not to say they can’t be changed too.. this will be a fun hot rod and I can’t see wanting to go more.. but I’m sure we’ve all said that before lol

Most guys tend to over cam an engine, and as many others have already stated neither of those cams will be that much fun on the street with a 3.55 gear.

Also, you may or may not know, but the way a roller cam works it probably has the same effect as a hydraulic cam that's got 10 degrees more duration.

If you want a nice street grind, find a hydraulic roller that has 228/234 at .050"

The cam that’s in this engine has that.. 227/235 @ .050

Just a little update.. the 340 is nearly ready for me to drop in the Dart. We went ahead and opened it another .010 for a total of .040 over. KB243 pistons, Edelbrock 6017 heads, howards hydraulic roller cam with .525/.530 lift.. edel air gap intake. Harland Sharp rockers… the snowball effect definitely happened with this engine. I’m gonna use Doug’s D453 ceramic headers. I’m happy to report that the lifter bores were okay with the morel lifters and didn’t even need to grind the ribs in the valley for them to fit. Online calculators put the compression at 9.75ish static an around 8.47:1 dynamic with that camshaft.

Should make for a spicy ride with the 4spd and 3.55 gear… my clutch is just a McLoed street clutch but I’m runnin just a regular cooper rear tire so it’s gonna blow the tires fairly easy. It probably would be smart to step that up to the 500hp rated one for some insurance.

Here’s a few shots. I went by today and brought a 68-69 timing cover and balancer since my 68 Dart uses the iron water pump a the original cover was the later driver side timing mark version. Just have to finish assembly, measure for pushrods, freshen the orange paint job, and other small details..

I run that cam in my 318 with 1.6 rockers and trick flows.. i have been pretty happy with it...
This is what it sounds like if interested (ignore the header leak, long fixed)

Should sound a little milder in your motor due to cubes though

Sounds righteous! I’m gonna see low long it takes before the current flowmaster dumps before the rear axle will irritate the hell out of me lol
They will sound great... I had put in Gibson MWA mufflers (mufflers with attitude) And honestly it was crazy.. it might as well have been open headers, and that's 3" to the bumper...

Now i have hooker.. i think aeroflow mufflers.. really happy with them...

P.S. i had bought a pair of summit mufflers to quiet it.. and that ended up costing me months of crap and $2000 in parts trying to fix a problem that ended up being bad mufflers. good times.

Currently it has a H pipe system that flowmaster offers. Total hack job on how they mated the H pipe to the pipes off the manifolds.. I may just get a summit kit made to bolt to headers and reuse my current mufflers.

I made my kit out of a amazon 3" pipe kit and just welded it up (except mufflers/tail pipes..) i take apart my **** so much that a full welded exhaust would be bad :)

Just remembered.. i also put resonators in the tailpipes to calm it a little more.. it had this RASPY sound that i hate.. like a old mans 78 chevy pickup..

I have a b-body though.. i don't think there is room in a a-body

Dumped flows was always a favorite sound of mine.. I won’t be driving daily so it won’t be like I’m in traffic and the drone will beat your brains out.. I kinda dig the black widow muffles from the clips I’ve watched on YouTube.. we’ll see how it turns out after then decide to keep them or try something a little less drone prone

I always ran dumped flowmasters, but now i'm old :) I wanted quieter and less fumes... the main thing is i leave for work just before 6am.. and i like my neighbors.

That is one perk of living out in the country lol. I work a mix of day shifts and night shifts.. I leave for work at 3:45am when I work day shift… that wouldn’t bode well if I had close close neighbors. if I did drive it to work it would be when I’d work nights.. it would be maybe 1-2 times a month during the cooler months.. which isn’t many in Louisiana.

Nice, i used to be in the country 20 years ago and now it's all new subdivisions and **** near me.. i kinda hate it cause people suck.. My neighbore are very cool though. I never get why people post videos of a loud car with "**** my neighbors" and stuff... i have to live with these people, i at least try to be cordial.

BTW.. i'm jealous.. i wish i lived somewhere warm, here when november rolls around i just shut down. I have a huge list to do on my car and i won't even touch it for 3 more months
