I don't know about brands but pay attention to the quick coupler. For example, mine is an old Proto which uses the same air coupler as my air "stuff." There are several traditional "old school" air couplers, and in the 70's and lately, this has gotten worse. I picked up an import gauge at a garage / thrift store which has a couple I cannot identify.
(The old Proto uses what is called Hansen-Milton, which is the same, last I checked, that Lowe's carries)
Why? Because you can use the parts for things like blowing compressed air in when changing valves, or to also build a leakdown tester.
