I'm getting pretty good at this. :computer: Here is an email I sent to my brother last week. He was having the same problems.

Take a look at this site for a tutorial on spyware http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm This is a pretty good explanation for the process to follow to clean off your PC, you can just follow the steps. It will take you a few hours since it requires downloading the programs, scanning your drives, and multiple reboots. But once you get it cleaned off, it is easy to maintain. Just run through the steps once a month or so with the latest definition files.

Also, go to this forum http://www.techsupportforums.com/ and scroll down to the 'Security Center' section for more information. Go into the 'HijackThis Log Help' forum and read the 3rd thread titled 'Please, Read This Before Posting A Hijackthis Log'. If you are still having problems, you can post your log file in that forum and someone will be able to explain what to do.

Here are the links to some of the tools you will need.

Trend virus scanner - http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/products/housecall_launch.php

AVG virus scanner - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

CWShredder - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CWShredder.exe

Ad-aware SE - http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022-10308605.html?tag=lst-0-2

Spybot S&D - http://security.kolla.de/

HijackThis - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/HijackThis.exe

Also, have you been updating your OS system files with Windows Update? Have you upgraded to Service Pack 2?

And finally, if you have not updated your ZoneAlarm lately, here is the link to the latest version.

ZoneAlarm 5.5 - http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/updates/znalm/za55062004AEN1023_US.html

If all else fails, reformat your hard drive. Good luck. :salut:

DONT REFORMAT I repete DO NOT REFORMAT.

Now, your best corse of action will be to download a progrem HIjack this, ITs a free Utility that looks for Browser Hijacks.

Also download Mozilla Firefox and use that instead of IE. If you still have problems shoot me an e-mail and ill help ya out as much as i can.

HiJack this doesn't seem to be working :(
The homepage it keeps changing to is about:blank

And it's also putting links into my favorites!

Hopefully you realized I was kidding about reformatting.

Did you read thru the info at the links I sent? The first thing to do is download CWShredder, Ad-aware SE and Spybot. Install them and check for the latest updates for the definition files. Once you have that done, run an on-line virus scan. Then run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot in that order. Delete all adware/spyware/malware/etc. that they find. Depending on how bad your system is infected, you may have to disconnect from the internet (unplug the cable modem, DSL modem or phone modem completely) then reboot your system into safe mode and run the utilities again.

After all that, if you are still having problems, then install and run HijackThis. This program does not automatically identify spyware, it just creates a log file that you can examine. VERY IMPORTANT, DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING UNLESS YOU ARE SURE IT IS A PROBLEM. You have to really know what you are doing or else you can screw up your system severely. The safe bet is to save the log file and post it to the tech support forum. They will tell you what to delete.

Forgot to mention this, but when you run any of anti-spyware tools, do not have Explorer open. Ideally you should exit ALL programs so that the only process active is the utility you're running.

I have tryed everything i can get my hands on and stil no luck! :(

It's taken over my home-page killed my google tool-bar and is putting all kind of stuff in my favorites!
A friend from work is supposed to give me a program to run today so i gues it's my last hope,if it doesn't work i'll have to get it reformatted.

Step 1. Go to download.com, get a copy of SpyBot S&D. Install it, update it so it has the latest files.
Step 2. Boot into safe mode.
Step 3. Run SpyBot over and over until it says the machine is clean.

This was some help I rerceived from Mikel

I just downloaded Spybot. I didn't have any problems but I had 102 "problems" 5 are being stubborn.

Spybot works great. Run it a few times. Try doing it in Safe Mode too. You may have to restart your commputer and run it again.

I did restart, that knocked it down from 6 to 5 that refuse to go away. All are the same or same type. I'll do the safe mode later.

Hey Kev,

One of the guy's here at the office had the same problem as you. He was pulling his hair out for weeks.
Last night he downloaded a program called "Antispy" beta version from Microsofts site and it solved his problems.

Hope this was in time and helps.

Jack

Thanks Jack but i got it fixed last night :D
The only program i didn't download was Spybot,i downloaded and ran it last night as my last shot and it worked

Cleaned out all the problems i had and now it's working great! :D

Thanks to all of you that tryed to help me out, i appreciate it! :thumleft:

Glad to hear you got it cleaned up. Now just remember to run it every couple of weeks with the latest definitions and you won't have the problems again.
