Hey all, there's tons of knowledgeable guys in here, and I have asked lots of non auto related questions over the years, so here goes!

I have a huge driveway that's nearly a 10,000 square foot rectangle where my pole building and home garage come together. It was a thick limestone base for years, and is now approx 2 inches/2layers of chip and seal.

I would call it semi tightly packed, but nowhere like true asphalt. There are arguably spots where it is very hard, to the point, If the entire thing was like that, I'd be happy, but much of it still has loose small Chips on top.

My actual question is: is there a product, almost like a driveway asphalt sealer, that binds the loose areas together, promotes longevity, but also won't be a sticky mess like tar?

I fear my long term fix is going to be, call an actual blacktop guy to put a blacktop layer on top. Which will be a huge cost.

Thanks guys for any suggestions!

I would rent a roller compactor and run it for a few hours. If the asphalt you have seems to knead together, excellent! Then coat it with driveway sealer and be done. If not.....call Speedy Asphalt.

I have an asphalt driveway as do many of my neighbors. many of them have had their driveways coated with some type of thin glaze, a sealant that fills cracks and equalizes the color of the surface. My driveway is about 3000 square feet and the estimate to coat it was about $2200.

I use asphalt grindings. I have a long driveway going up a hill. Everything else always got washed away in the rain. Fairly inexpensive and packs down nice. Would probably work well with what you already have.

That probably would have been good had i not already had a tar and chip layer down. I kept looking for asphalt milling, or crushed blacktop. Before I paid for a melted asphalt layer. Oddly hard to find in my area for any less money than limestone.
