Computer help

Well Rusty there's potentially lots of ways you can do this............

You have any storage device that is USB connected? USB memory stick? CD / DVD drive? Or a CD / DVD burner on your laptop, and at least a reader in the PC?

How about an external hard drive?

Download the driver into the laptop, then store it in "whatever you have" and transfer it to the PC

You can buy USB memory sticks VERY cheap. "Awhile back" Staples had a bin full for 5 bucks apiece. I bought several.

It has the realtek. I am using Windows 7 Starter.

Okay, I need to know which Audio driver version you're running.

Windows 7.
1. click the window icon on the lower left.
2. type "device manager" in the search box and hit enter.
3. find sound, video and game controllers in the list (and click it if it isn't open yet.)
4. look for Realtek Audio device and double click it to open the device
5. select the middle tab "driver" and let me know which version is running.

For future reference this is the link to your Acer driver page:
http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers/1854;-;AO532h

I'm running - realtek 6.0.1.6156 driver on my windows 7 distribution.

Some questions:
Do you hear the under all applications? for instance is it there if you listen to Pandora radio?
Which applications do you hear it in?

It makes the noise on everything. My version is 6.0.1.6066

I just downloaded the above driver today from the very page you posted and it made no difference.

I had this problem on this acer laptop... When the audio chipset powers down it basically leaves its outputs "floating" so they are free to pick up noise. Realtek told me to get the file rtkhdaud.dat and put it in the folder Windows/System32/Drivers and restart the computer

I still have the upload

http://www.mediafire.com/download/w58i5zpiawaw8j6/rtkhdaud.dat

Worse case you might need to adjust a Realtek registry key..

I am trying to find the actual reg patch but dont see it..

But you can manually adjust it

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Realtek\RAVCpl64\PowerMgnt]
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"DelayTime"=dword:0000000f
"OnlyBattery"=dword:00000001

okay,

Since things aren't working all that great for you at the moment, you could try downloading one of the R2.75 releases (32or 64 bit) depending on your system.

The link below takes you to the realtek site:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/

Choose
sball.gif
High Definition Audio Codecs (Software)

then select US2 (east coast)

I would uninstall the old 6066 driver (same as steps above) resart the system and install the downloaded R2.75 one.
See if that helps and if it doesn't help, or doesn't work uninstall it and reinstall the 6066.

I noticed that also, just wasn't sure if it is the .dat or .sys or both.
Figured, R2.75 was a safe start.

If you decide to replace the ".dat" or the ".sys" files, I would rename the old files... something like "rtkhbaud.dat to rtkhbaud.dat.old" prior to copying the new one into the location.

Windows usually does "System Checkpoints" every so often. In your system tools menu (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools) there should be a "System Restore" option, this program allows you to restore your system to a previous day (Usually installing programs will also create a restore point) try restoring to a date prior to the day the power went out and see if that helps.

Problem is, it's been doin it so long, I don't remember when it didn't do it. lol I've just been putting up with it.

okay,
now let's try the rtkhdaud.dat file.

I've attached a copy that I ran through scan and it came up clean.

You'll need to copy it into c:Windows/System32/Driver and restart the computer.

If it asks to overwrite an existing file say no and rename the old file first as mentioned earlier.

Nope. Same thing. Dammit all.

If you haven't yet I think I'd try uninstalling all the Realtech audio and reinstall.

In Control Panel go to Programs and Features. Scroll to Realtech audio and uninstall.

Then in Device Manager, click on Sound,Video, and Game Controllers to expand, right click on the Realtech device and choose uninstall.

Wait a minute or two.

Make sure you have internet axis.

Then in Device Manager, Right click on Sound,Video, and Game Controllers and choose Scan for Hardware Changes.

It should find the Realtech device, install it, and ask for permission to locate drivers or to be directed to a location for the driver.
I'd try letting Windows find a driver and see what happens.

If that has no effect on performance you can "Update" the driver from Device Manager and direct it to your downloaded file.

Then too, there is always a chance of a faulty sound board in the netbook that no driver can fix.

rots a ruck!

I did that before I installed the last program. I knew it might not take unless I uninstalled it first.

Do you have the latest codecs/latest flash player?

The one other thing that comes to my mind is that the latest video are requiring more from your computer (more CPU usage, ram usage, etc).

I have never seen a driver fix crackling in the audio because it's an electrical part failure that causes voltage spikes and interuptions.
You could use a USB external sound system, but you would have to use external speakers also. (kind of a PIA)

You don't need a disc for the wireless LAN adapter if it's already been installed.
If it's in device manager (System / device manager for 7) it already has the drivers and you can remove it and reboot. (the easiest way)
That will reinstall it on the reboot, and if it's going to work it will.

These are cheap as hell and work great also, and I carry one in my breifcase for testing computers and laptops with.
