ONE GUESS ITS A 340 i HAVE A 69 GTS THATS GOT THE 340 6 ON THE SIDE LIKE THAT iM JUST NOT SURE ABOUT THE NUMBER IN THE FRONT OF THE BLOCK

I believe that is the so number that might match a part of the vin. Like numbers matching car s have most parts stamped together. The block casting will call out the size, this is not cast but stamped. May have assembly plant and 10000 day date code. 340 6 is 6th core replaced in that mold. TA would be 6 pack motor with 4 bolt main provisions only.

The numbers are the 10000 day date and the unit built that day.

3247 = June 10, 1970

Look on pass side, just above pan rail for a flat machined surface. A partial vin should be stamped there.

It's a regular 340 block and not the original for a 1969 car if the dating is correct. A T/A block has an entirely different casting number

3247 = 10k day code, June 10, 1970
1651 = num unit assembled to yours that day

There should be letters and numbers in front of these though. Probably like FW340P32471651?

Please break this down for me, 3247 = 10k day code, June 10, 1970
When did the 10K day code actually start? I have tried to decipher this system several times and I never can figure it out.

0000 - July 28, 1961

3247 is June 18, 1970 Must have read it wrong...
