Confusion on ring gaps for 5.9/ hyper pistons

-
A buddy and I ran a 440 in a duster with cast pistons with .008 piston to wall. Piston slap would wake the dead cold, but it made lots of 11 second passes, and never came apart.
That’s a ton of clearance for a cast piston.

Oh yeah. Way too much. But running what we had. Had to fly cut the pistons ourselves for the .590 purple shaft. Welded carbide cutters to an old valve.
Necessity is the mother of invention type of deal. I like it. I just cut a valve and sharpened the end. Worked like a champ. That’s a 2.05 valve from an LS that was a throw away, made a perfect tool

I had a .060 over 350 Chevy I ran like that. The old 12.5 TRW forged slugs and close to .010" piston to wall. Sounded like a diesel cold and you could still hear it "a little" warmed up. It ran consistent 12.0s in a 75 Oldsmobile Starfire and on the street everyday. Never gave a problem.

Sofar, everybody has said run em. I did too. But! I WOULD check to make sure you have ENOUGH gap,for the hypers. You sure don't have too much, especially if you plan to boost .
