The foreman sez my new valve guides are in the heads... Waiting to see Mr. Serdi.

The sleeve is in the block, it's been given the 1/2 fill and is awaiting a surface cut and final bore/hone.

Some progress at least.

Shop foreman called today asking what head gasket I will be using. He wanted to be sure to resurface with the correct RA finish.

Should have the block and heads in my grubby hands in two weeks.

What are you building that needs a half fill? This sounds interestin.

.040 over, 3.79 stroke, 14-1 compression, alky dirt late model engine.

I've never done a filled block before but I thought this would be a good candidate for some cyl. wall strength.

Looking at the Gen3 Hemi's I have the bottom 1/3 of the cylinders are solid cast iron... beefy.

I have the parts at the shop that originally built this engine back in 1993. Very good reputation but setting up a new machine to do the bring and decking set things back But this Covid deal got the owner all out of sorts. Scared him I guess. Customers were locked out of the shop.

When our wonderful governor shut down the state he was exempt from the order but stopped taking in new work. That was fine but I think he laid off a couple guys and was down to himself, the foreman and the crank grinder.

He does all the HD diesel work and this new machine got him more, higher paying diesel jobs and he kinda forgot about his race customers. The two guys he benched do the majority of the work, heads, assembly... stuff like that.

IIRC I dropped of my block back in October/November. Waited months for the pistons. Just a funky deal overall.

Yeah a 1/2 fill won't hurt a thing. It's a dang good idea.

If that thing has even decent heads on it the block is well within critical use. You need some kind of aftermarket block.

How many laps per season? I’d be nervous with that block.

I know we are in the suck because of the lack of blocks. But that’s a lot to ask of a stock block.

10 lap heats...20 lap features. 1/2 mile paperclip shaped dirt track. A few trips to 1/3 miles. About 20 nights per season. A few test sessions would be in order.

This thing was in a WISSOTA modified back in the 90's. 575HP on the dyno. I hope to get 650 out of it with the new cam. The PO never ran it over 6K but I won't be quite that conservative.

I know a few guys running the same stock block stuff getting two seasons out of the same combo before a freshen.

We shall see... however with my lack of an engine right now is putting this season a bit out of reach...

The next engine with be a Gen3 with Eagle heads.
