I am trying to replace the lower control arm bumper on my 71 Duster with a 73 disc brake conversion. It seems simple enough to remove the nut, but there is not a whole lot of space to get either a socket and even less to get a wrench in there. Who knew this would be so hard... Any ideas?

It's not hard to do at all.
All that you need is a thin wall 9/16 deep socket, 1/2 inch drive, or if you can beg, borrow, steal, buy, a 9/16 deep socket , 1/4 inch drive that will fit up there between the two halves of the LCA.
Don't see where your having a problem with a 1/2 inch drive socket.

On the driver side bumper, the stud was positioned too far to one side that it kept a socket from going over it. I took a deep 9/16 socket to a bench grinder to make it even thinner and was able to get it off. The passenger side was no problem since the stud was centered the the slot.
