It is all steel, chevy looks or not but it is working really well...

For a cowl induction scoop to work properly the opening needs to be back by the windshield. The wiper grill area like on our a-bodys will not allow this so it really is more of an opening for heat to escape the engine compartment than an inlet for fresh air. The '69 Z28 Camaro hoods that you see was just something for Chevrolet to put on the street cars to help sell the Z28 package. The true "trans am" Camaros had an air cleaner housing that was sealed to the firewall in the area of the wiper grill like on our a-bodys and had a flat hood. So if you like the looks great go for it but for guys that say it is better than the front opening scoop at least as incoming air is concerned it is just a pipe dream. If it was that good it would be used in pro-stock. This is of course if the scoop is sealed to an air box for the carb. If it's not it is mostly for looks, which is fine or better for a street car. I had a scoop sealed to the carb on a street car when I was younger and will tell you if you want to talk about carb iceing living in the north this is the way to do it. The ice would build up so bad on the freeway I could take my foot of the gas pedal and it would stay were it was. I had to blip the throttle to ingest the ice to get it to release.

I really like the cowls, here where I live if you want to make the events in the summer you have to figure on a rain shower or two and I dont like ramming rain down the front of my enigine all that well.I also need the hood clearence or I would just run a stock hood.Anyway here are a couple pics of cars with cowl sccops(not my cars),if you ask me I think a cowl hood on a duster looks born to be there with the body lines. Also I like others agree that these hoods only became mainstream with the owtlaw cars and the mustangs have more it seems than any cars.

A cowl is just flat out more functional than any scoop. Venting hot air out (cowl) is more efficient at cooling an engine, let alone the areodynamic benefit, than shoving cold air in through a scoop.

Cowl induction scoop + Posi-traction = Chebby

Hemi scoop,340 scoops,six-pack scoop,max wedge scoop + Sure grip = Mopar

Pisses me off when people call a sure grip, posi.

Call me a purist.

Personally I wouldn't put one on any of my Mopars, but that's not saying it's wrong to do so. But as has been said, prepare for some good natured ribbing from die in the wool Mopar guys.

Which leads me to ask since it is on this topic. I have a perfectly solid and rust free hood on my 71 Dart and I would not even think of cutting it up. But when I do finally drop the 440 into the lil gal I either want to go with either a six pack or AAR style hood. Now I know there are glass hoods made, but what modifications are necessary to fit these onto an A-body such as my 71? Also I'd prefer a hinged hood over a lift off. How about some feed back on these styles and suggested manufactures of these hoods. Thanks. - Jim

BTW, I don't really consider myself a purist but definately a traditionalist. In other words I can accept some Mopar stuff on other models of Mopars, but I wouldn't mix X brand componets on Mopars. And if I owned X brand cars I wouldn't want Mopar stuff on it either...........just me. :salute: :)
