Im pretty well versed on cowl rot. leaves and crap and years of water taking their toll. But now I have a 65 with no visible holes or rot! amazing. However, I've just went through the vacuum, scaping chore to clean it out. even the inspection camera shows good metal!

However....I want to seal it somehow. I'd like to prevent further rot and IF there is a pinhole or two....seal it now!
WITHOUT cutting it open....how would you suggest sealing the surface? I was thinking of pouring "red Kote" tank sealer to seal the floor. But that would only seal the bottom.....

Is there a wand spray that would work spraying a surface sealer? POR thinned maybe? undercoat gun and wand???????

Here is some "fun" picts of a previous cowl I fixed. Lots of fun on this one. I DONT want to do a job like this again!

maybe this undercoating gun? I would guess the spray pattern at the tip of the extension would be 360 degrees.

Anyone use "Fluid Film"?

Eastwood sells a product for rust proofing inside frame rails and such. It comes with an extension hose and the nozzle fans it out 360 degrees. You would want to tape any places you don't want it coming thru. If your careful it might be what your looking for.

I've used "liners" in steel gas tanks and it didn't prevent rust. The base metal rusted anyway, all the "liner" does is create a barrier between the two environments.

It has lasted almost 50 years with the factory overspray finish. Do you plan on parking it outside under a tree? An additive in that closed and sometimes damp environment will promote rust, not prevent it.

I just want to make sure that its clean inside. Spray bomb some rust neutralizer in there....hopeing to slow whatever rust has started. I want to coat it with "something" just to keep any moisture from hitting the metal and sealing any possible pin holes.

Any mopar that I have / had gets parked indoors. When outside, I always just put a piece of magnetic sign material over the grill when parked - - esp. when raining, just in case.

An inovative thread a few yrs ago, had a liberal amt of Por 15, poured down the outer grill,, he jacked the opposite side of car fairly high, and left to set,,

I can't remember if he jacked before or after adding the Por 15 ..,

the Por 15 apparently ran around the duct and sealed it... always thought I'd try that if I got a "leaker"..

hope it helps

Keeps us posted, I'm curious to see how it turns out.
