If you wanted to, you could fix it with lock-n-stitch. It's a bit more high tech then just drilling and tapping overlapping bolts, but same principle.
The core plug hole is the biggest PITA with that repair. It might need sleeved and I would probably go to a NPT plug instead of a cup plug.
