I just noticed a couple cracks in the front retainer on the 4 speed I'm installing. This was rebuilt prior to my purchase, looks like RTV was used as sealant. Seems to be fit well, not sure why the cracks are there, probably from over torqueing bolts. Is this a problem? Do I need to search for a replacement?

They’re pretty cheap to replace and aren’t a real strong casting. Brewers can set you up.

IIRC, if the snap ring that comes with the bearing is used, it will not fit in the recess of the bearing retainer.
It requires using the snap-ring that came with the trans to fit in that retainer.
Not sure if that's the result .
Good luck .

It will leak at those cracks. When you call have the casting number off the retainer, and also the casting number on the bellhousing you will be using with the 4-speed.

Yup. It's important. Time for a new one. Dan will fix you up.
