Crane 64511 flat tapped lifter

I just bought a set of these nos lifters, my 383 I had rebuilt last year has been rebuilt, ran in, and is in my car. I searched high and dry for a set of nos lifters to no avail, anyways these come up and I have another 69 383 engine and I seen these come up for a decent price so I bought them…
Can anyone tell me about the quality of these? They are really nice looking and clean is just in the box the best way to store these for future use? The box is oily and it seems what they had wrapped around it got oily during shipping.

Crane is quality, I doubt anyone would hesitate to use them.

Yeah I sure wish I had found them before my other engine had been put together, but the break in went fine so I am not to worried… I will probably try to find a nice nos crane cam though before this other 383 gets built.

Are they used? If so, I would certainly reface them. If they're new, clean um up and slap um in. Those are OLD. They're good ones. They are so old, I would disassemble each one, clean them GOOD and put a little ATF in each one and reassemble.

They are new nos, I don’t have a clue how to get that apart. Probably leave that up to a professional…

By the marks on the sides they look used have them resurfaced for the next cam they are used on.

They all look like that on the sides, identical all 16, here is the top.

I could be wrong but that looks like wear on the sides. In person could be a different story. I would be checking to make sure they are what the box says they are.

That looks used to me. A good wear pattern, but used. Get us some pictures of all the rest and from the sides as well. Also get a GOOD picture of one from the top, so we can see the ring ALL the way around. With no shadows. That ring comes out somehow.

I am thinking they may be used as well, i could be wrong but sometimes you trust people to send you nos and their version of nos is different than yours lol. I am going to better inspect them later and will post a few pics. Thanks!

Nothing wrong with them either way. The metal is far superior to anything today. They are perfectly fine for refacing.

I have a 1984 catalog, & these lifters are not listed. Lifter part #s start with a '9'.
Box says 'Special' hyd lifters. Crane & Comp had their own version of bleed down lifters at one time. Could this be them?

It couldn't be a hyd lifter, otherwise lifter could not hold pressure. I wondered if these lifters were solids, with the high oil band, p'rod seat well down & odd circlip? But box says Hyd??

They're a mystery for sure. No doubt in my stash, they'd be coming apart to see what I had.
