I've got a crank from my 66 273. Can I install it into a 1984 318, without rebalancing the engine assy ? Any other things I should know ? What about reusing my 273 rods into the 318 ?

Yes, it can be installed in the 318. Yes, you should balance the rotating assembly. Yes, you can use the 273 rods. The issue is the small diameter torque converter register on the 66 crankshaft. The 68 and up transmission torque converter/transmission won't fit. 65'

unless your looking to build a 500 + hp 318, the 318 cast crank is fine.

do the 273 rods have a bushing for a floating pin? the 273 pins are heavier than 318. will the pistons you use have clips for pin retention? 273 2 barrel or 4? automatic or manual trans.? if the rods and pistons and pins weigh very close to what the 273 was balanced to = no rebalance needed

273 rods are all bushed. I think the pistons and pin combinations are the same weight, 2 barrel pins are heavier than 4 barrel pins, but you should check 318 pistons and pins to be sure. I can second the rear register on the crank.

You can have the crank machined to accept the later larger convertor snout.
