D150 with a RV 440, just to see what it will run

-
I get the feeling that you may know someone who has tinkered with a motorhome 440 before… according to the Stan Weiss compression calculator: with the pistons .170 in the hole (that’s a thing with motorhome 1.912 compression height pistons), worst case chamber volume of 90 ccs with 7 ccs reduction by .030 cut (83cc’s), and 4.55 bore X .039 8519 PT-1 head gasket, we’ve got a womping stomping 7.7:1.

Seems to me, there's some humility in 318willrun...

Very low compression, yes. I've known people that put RV440's into things over the years, nothing I can remember riding in or saw go at the track. My brother did take his '77 new yorker to the track and ran 17.3's in stock form. All irrelevant to this project. I have no "hidden knowledge". I'm not a secret keeper... lol

I got noth'n my friend. I did put a stock 400 in a short bed truck once. 4bbl, headers, I ran 14.50. Nothing on this current combo relates to that combo. I also had a Warlock 2WD with a 400 2bbl, and it was lucky to run like a 318 2bbl truck in my opinion.

No way no how.
See, this is where you and a lot of the rest of us differ. We'd never come in here and piss all over Tim's project. ...and that's what you're doing. That'd be like me CONSTANTLY going to your truck thread and beating all over it. I've poked fun a few times about you not leaving the slant in it, but that's it. I'd never talk down on it. Tim's having fun and you should allow him that. Instead of telling him what a slow POS it will be, you should be hopeful for a fellow Mopar guy. You're not and that's pretty telling.

Remember, if it goes too quick.... he's selling his magnum stuff and going RV ..... so he has a little skin in the game... LOL All in fun, I'm having a blast and nobody will take that from me. Also, the truck will have the final say, until then we have a list of opinions....including mine!

If you can make an asthmatic 400 turn 14.5 there’s hope.

Tim and I are in great standing. He knows I’m having as much fun here as he is and the rest of you are. Nothing I say (hardly ever) is so serious that it garners the type of response you just spent typing out. Smile, have fun, and don’t take this hobby so seriously.

You’ve gotten my attention with that statement. Do you know if it was a stock two or four barrel 400? The 383/400 two barrel engines (according to the MP engine manual, anyway) have the smallest camshaft numbers of any big block Mopar.

factory 2bbl from a van. We put a weiand action plus on it with a carter 625. I didn't touch a thing on the rest of the engine, not even a timing chain.

You too!

Most of those engines were in the basement on compression, too, as in mid sevens. And probably the same camshaft. Do remember what gears and tires?

In the theme of low buck mods, this would be an interesting upgrade after figuring out what gear it works best with...
Pardon Our Interruption...
Specs:
Camshaft 'Hydraulic'
Lift ........................... .425"/.437"
Duration .................... 256*/260*
Overlap ...................... 32*
But after reviewing the spec's, it may very well be what's already in there. :D

IF/When I build the 440, it will be cost effective but that doesn't mean I won't spend some money. We may be talk'n pistons, heads, cam, etc. Who knows... while the 5.9 is out, I may build a stout 408 out of it and put it back in there ... LOL. At this time, I just want to make a pass how it is and let a plan develop.

ok, just so you know 408 is going backwards from 440. lol
But forward from where we are.... you see cubes.. i see ET. 12.9 is what there is to beat. Be it a turbo charged slant six, or a 512 stroker, but for now we are most likely going slower by going bigger because right now I don't care about the ET as much as I do finding out what the RV440 will do :)

We here at 318willrun are looking to install a RV440 into a D150 long bed just to see what time it will turn at the track.
BTW, my guess of 15.20 is for a quarter mile, not an eighth... I'm not sure the guys guessing 13s are clear on that!
JK- it will be interesting.
