SOB!!!!! I bought the wrong one. The thick one you mentioned in your balancer thread louis...argh.

I have a lot of words to throw around, but I'll keep them to myself.
This one should be safe though...bear with me....****!!!!!!!!

Is there even a fix? It hits the timing tab before it will fully seat is the problem. I think it will hit the reinforcememnt ribs on the magnum cover I am using too. Those I could grind, but not sure about the timing tab unless I could backfill it with epoxy? Even so I wonder if it would line up right with the pullies....oh well. It would be a nice balancer if it fit.

OK, I'm over it...
It's my own fault. I should have referenced this thread earlier.
Don't be a POS, and read this thread!!!! It'll save you 130 bucks on a paperweight...and what's funny is I read that thread a while ago but forgot about it.

Ok, let's move on and make like this never happened... *deep breaths*...:angry7:

What balancer will fit without spacers, grinding, and using tai-chi on **** in the garage in a rage...that doesnt cost 400 bucks???

I'm talking something around 100-150 bucks here and wont fling the ring....anyone??????

I almost built this entire engine without one problem...It was overdue.
DAMN!!!!:-D

Suggestions? Ideas? Jokes? Anything?

The SFI one from Summit is too long.

LOL WTF...can anyone make a balancer that fits to factory dimensions?
What do they think these things are going to go on except a trash pile?
Are they retarded?

Man this is annoying.:toothy10:

Jeeeeeeeeeeeggggs

or take an extra crank bolt washer to a machine shop and have them open it up to use as a spacer, IF that will keep it off the cover.

hey its all about hotroding, buy one cool/good/efficient part and then modify 145256632556 other parts around it to make it fit your aplication ;)

Yea yours looks thicker for sure. Remember I made a Spacer for mine because the snout was too short..............................They said a few months ago that they were fixing the problem with it.

LOL, I honestly dont think I'd be able to get this thing to fit.
I really want to though. I have been thinking about filling the timing pointer part of the cover with epoxy or JB and grinding it to clear.
I'd have to cut a notch out of the inner portion of it.
Of course if it doesnt seat against the crank gear properly at that point I just wasted a timing cover, so I'm wondering if I should even try....

A spacer alone won't do it. ANd then there's the whole pullay alignment thing.

I'm honestly wondering what the others who bought these did with them...whether it was something custom they did to make them work, or if they used them to weight down their ex wives bodies in the river...

Snout on this one is even shorter. The extra thickness in the ring is on the backside which is what screws me. I think the two things in the way of it working are the timing pointer and the reinforcing ribs on the mag cover.

See what you guys did? I am about to start a whole cut and hack side-project where I will now ruin a good timing cover to install an effed up balancer that wont fit. LOL

I might try... I need to think about this. Let me take some pics of the cover so you can see what I am talking about.

I know you are all LA guys and the mag cover is different. Back in a bit.

Send it back; wish I had on the Summit. Diameter ok, just 5/16" too long, I found after slinging belts. Spaced out the water pump and alt( 1/2 a day). Now can't pull fan belt off without taking the world apart (fan too close to radiator.

there's no way it will work with mine.
my mag timing cover, but it MIGHT work with the SMR billet cover like mopardude has.
I talk to GregZ almost every day, so I'll see what he says. also means I'd be using a csr electric pump. I can get that billet cover now for way cheaper than they first sold for.

Anyone using one of those for the street? A csr pump? lemme know....

I like this balancer and if I could make it work i would be really happy.

It's not about money. Money I have. It's just the principle.
An effing mopar balancer should work on a mopar. no? hehe

If I get reassurance the csr works good on the street, then that's like 30 free hp or so I believe so that's kind of a good thing!

This is the billet cover of which I speak....this belongs to a friend of mine.
The ones I am talking about are not polished. they are machined and have a billet timing tab.

if anyone knows whether that pump is street safe, I would appreciate it.
I think the balancer would work fine with this cover, and open up a new door of coolness...or be the death of me. lol

My assembly is internally balanced from Brian.

That pump is indeed good for the street. Good for 50k miles they say and then the motor should be replaced. That's the same one on mopardude's motor IIRC as well as the cover. You dont think the feed holes are large enough?

I'll call them and return this balancer tomorrow though either way.

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but if you went with something like the ATI super damper (unfortunately ~ 400 bucks) you could just trade out the hub for a different size. Totally rebuildable and customizable...the last balancer you would ever have to buy...just my 2 cents.

No, you're right!
I'm thinking about it. I might just eat the big one and do that.
I'm sick of playing around with this bull.:angry7:

Looks like this is the right one.

I need to see who has it for the best price...

Summit has it for a few cents cheaper. ha!

do what makes you feel good.

I run a $55 parts pro dampener on my 340, I swap it onto the 410 when it was in the car.

I had smokey toss in on the balancer and remove a drill tip worth to 0 it.

if you were really turning up the wick, 8000rpm or better and or circle track 9k+ I'd back the idea of a $400 balancer, thats just me.

Yes, that is the same cover that I have, got it from Magnum HP...How did your friend obtain it? Did he recently get it? Because Greg (I think is his name) at Magnum HP said he was no longer making them...It is a nice cover for sure, but is a bit expensive to use because it forces you to use an electric water pump, ($330) like the one you have shown, and also have to use an electric fuel pump.lol

electric pump only huh?

the feed holes look small?

don't know what the balance requirement is but ..

just return that 1.

The feed holes were small, I had them opened up close the the stock size holes on a CNC.

I heard those water pumps last a while too and were good for the street, that's why I got one. You can also try to run a TCI Rattler harmonic dampener, thats what I have on mine as well... Here's a pic:

That sure does suck. I know very well as I have one of them taking up space in the garage rafters too. I found a Romac on E-bay for $225 shipped and it fit perfect and the pulley's are right in alignment. I know that's more than you said you wanted to spend but for a great SFI balancer that fits like it should it's not bad. Don't know if there are any more out there though as Romac is no longer. Might be worth the time to look though.

GregZ is his name. Lives not too far from my florida house.
We've known him for years. he has a secret stash of them for his friends.
The ones he has now are in a machined finish and also feature a billet timng pointer with no logo. They are not for sale to the general public.
but all I have to do is let him know, shoot him some money and I can have one here in a few days.

He made the ones of which you have one of, out of pocket and a bunch of people screwed him and didnt pay, so he'll likely never do anythign like that again. You better hang onto that one! You'll never get another.

That guy makes a lot of great parts and will help with anything.
He makes lots of good **** for swapping big blocks into dakotas and stuff like that too. He can even widen wheels. Very talented and good guy.

Yeah, romac made very good stuff. It's too bad we're left with an ever increasing amount of crap to work with.

At this point I'lll spend whatever I have to, so as to not have any problems. I am not opposed to buying an ATI or a rattler simply because it can move along from one to another. I guess these are really good and made to last.

I'm gonna take a break from the engine for a few days and do some work on the truck wiring. I need to correc the starter circuit, put in a voltage regulator, yank out the tank and efi pump to replace with a fuel cell, pump and lines, and i think that should be about it. I am also eyeballing some nice aluminum radiators since the stockers are crap.

Anyway. I'll figure something out. I was just annoyed by the fact I bought a smallblcok mopar balancer that doesnt fit a smalblock mopar. What a load of crap.

I don't know if you guys remember when my PRO-STREET balancer came apart on my driveway. It was a 2pc balancer that was supposed to be good to 9k and it EXPLODED on me taking out the front cover in the process.

I ended up buying the RATTLER and it fit perfect on the first try. No machining or shimming for the pullys. It is about $60.00 cheaper than the ATI one you are lookiing at.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TCI-870012/

I have the ATI dampner on my 408.I had to get a longer crank bolt and also had to get a universal crank pully from Mancini,s for my alt. to line up.The ATI dampner wasn,t cheap, but as said..buy once.Good luck with your search.

That's the one I keep going back to...I never hear any bull about it.

That's what I'm afraid of...pulley alignment.
I'm using a serpentine system so selection of pullies and such are few.
Long crank bolt...that's the first time I heard about that.

Did you have to hone the hub. I keep hearing that from someone...
