Head out for first outing of the year.
Idling back to pits after going through tech, all the sudden hear a wierd noise, look at oil pressure, it hasn’t moved at all.
Whap the throttle in second gear, noise seems to go away, and car feels fine until rpm’s are lower then noise is evident.
In other words, stand on it, nothing seems amiss.
Go back to the pits scratching my head. Guy pitted on one side of me is standing there, with a top sportsman car.
I asked him what this sounded like to him, he said loose convertor bolt.
Let it cool off, take a ride in golf cart, fellow local racer stops me, we chat, he says bring the car down here, I have a lift in my double stacker, we will winch it in and lift it up.
Converters bolts are fine, hanger for driver muffler was loose, didn’t see anything else. Nobody really had any ideas.
Go back to pits, let the car sit, go up to watch for a while. Come back, start car up cold, sounds perfectly normal. Let it warm up for a while, here comes that noise back. I am convinced it’s exhaust related.
Time trial Sat morning, I am expecting a low 6.50, 1500 foot of air( or better maybe with “ timing” issue “ resolved”
Anyhow, runs 6.77 at 101. It’s off a good bit. Kinda seems like it’s chugging, light miss.
Put a 77 on it for first round( had zero clue what it would run) it runs 6.95@98 mph. Ouch. Needless to say I was dead meat.
Anyhow, will pop the valve covers off and pray… then the oil filter and I will invest in a hacksaw, see what’s what.
Guess that’s racing. Grandkids had a blast, nice show, great promod racing, among other stuff.
Off to church, car is still needing to be unloaded, along with golf cart
Was hoping for no issues, that wasn’t the case. She still broke
