Did a little intake work Tonite...

I bought a used Moroso water outlet on FB for $30.00 shipped... got it yesterday. I had a little extra time Tonite so I bolted in on, removed the two small plugs so I can replace them with some brass fittings and 3/8 ID hose.

Then I ground/sawed of one side of the cast-in coil bracket and drilled/tapped two holes for the other end of those hoses.

We use these hose deals to help return hot water from the top of the heads and return it to the radiator without having to find it's way back thru the heads. I'm running methanol so I likely wouldn't need the extra cooling but what the hey...

I had intended on using -6 AN fittings but spending $90.00 for the supplies just isn't worth it for pretty. Got about $12.00 in this deal right now.

Did that on my chevy engines, moons ago. WORKS !

Some guys will tap the area between the two center exhaust valves... that keeps 'em cool, too but running alky should also help.

Tomorrow I should be able to reassemble my carb as I got the main body back from the carb shop after he installed new boodters for me.

What do you think of using heater hose to run from the back to the front?

You don't need it that large... Most race motors I see are -6 or -8.

Simply a mildly ported W-2 intake... The PO told me those ports flow 280-ish... If they were reworked to a squared shape they could do 300+ (I've been told).

Also drilled and tapped the block between the two center cylinders. That and the intake lines don`t need to be over 3/8" for it to work and work well ! There is 3/8" hose that will withstand the heat.

You may be right...flow numbers and dyno figures don't always translate into driveability Nirvana....

I owned a set of Bud Moore prepped 351-C 4V heads off of a 70's vintage NASCAR engine. If I would have spun that motor to 7500 I likely would have loved them but my little 2V heads really performed better at 6500...

Some say you also need to tap a line between the two center cylinders....and doing just the rear intake lowers water pressure to the heads.

I wouldn't bother on a street driver...

Do you mean that the tubes from the rear of the manifold to the front would lower the temperature at the back of the heads?
Because if you have a 16 pound pressure cap on your radiator, your going to have 16 lb throughout the system I would think.

It (will) help circulation, and it (will) help when filling to get the air out. The lines between the cyl. do help w/ cooling the head more evenly. I did it on my 600 horse street n strip sbc engines . If I ever have my 440/505 stroker out, I might take a look at doing it to it also, but don`t think I have room w/ my external oil lines and 2 " headers in the 68 barracuda body.

Having a "water pressure" gauge is the trendy thing (I guess) around my area with the oval track guys. My kids B mod has one... The PO made it sound like it was a necessity to race... I guess I'm too dumb to know stuff like that.
