A couple of weeks ago the temperature sender on my '62 Valiant with a 360 V8 failed. The parts house claims they gave me the right new sender, but it reads a lot higher than the old one did. With the new sender, the gauge reads almost hot when the engine's temperature is actually normal. Did they give me the wrong sender, or what?

Dunno. Too much sealant or teflon tape will interfear with the senders ground.
You'll need to check the wire closely too. The wirre could have been the original problem .

Test it yourself. Pull the senser out of the engine and suspend the senser end in a pot of hot (180-200F) water, with a thermometer and see if it's accurate. Leave the wire hooked up and wrap a wire around the threads and ground back to the engine.

I believe if there were any high resistance in the wire or the ground, the gauge would read lower than normal, rather than higher.

Is there more than one kind of temp. sender for a 360, or only one kind?
