It has been awhile since I have made this change. Years ago I did a few but I don’t remember the details. Sometime soon, I’m going to pull the 360 and 904 from this:

I plan to swap in a 340 to break it in, then a 360 that will stay. I need a more durable transmission since I simply don’t know how durable a stock rebuilt 904 would be.
I assume that I could leave the 904 in place until it shows signs of failing. I know a 727 takes more power to turn but since I’m not drag racing this car, I’m more interested in durability.
I don’t remember what changes need to occur to the kick down and shifter linkages. I have a stock floor shifter in place. I can cut and modify linkage to make it work, I’ve done it before. The ATF cooler ports are in different spots so the lines will have to be massaged a bit, that is fine.
Care to remind me of any specific troubles I’ll encounter ?

Check to make sure your 727 tailshaft housing has the bosses to mount the floor linkage pivot bracket.

Not all of them do. You can make a bracket if it doesn't, but it might be easier to do before you install the trans.
Otherwise it sounds like you've got a handle on it- I'm sure you're aware of the driveshaft length and output yoke differences.

Yeah, I have a few 727 yokes. This shaft will be set aside for this car:

I’ll have another one shortened for this.
