Direct Connection Air Cleaner Help

Hello,

Hoping you guys can help me figure this air cleaner out... Either I'm a complete moron, or something isn't right about this contraption! How the hell can air get into this when the base and dome are the same diameter? They almost seal when together?

I had 2 friends with considerable Mopar knowledge and much more mechanical aptitude agree that it does not make sense.

The gentleman I purchased from (Ebay) swears its correct and complete.

That particular breather draws air from a 1/2" gap between the base & the lid. I'm sure you have the right filter. That drop base is wrong though.
This is what the base should look like. It fits the filter exactly & there's no carb notch.

That's awesome. I wonder who is running around with the wrong base for their universal air cleaner.
