Distributor o ring problem

I put a new o ring on the distributor of my 440 and am having a terrible time gettin the thing to seat. I confirmed everything is lined up correctly, without the o ring the dist. slides all the way down and seats like it should. I tried setting it dry, oiled, even tried chillin it in the freezer to get it to contract some...wont work, it just tries to squish and not slide down. Tried pulling it down with the clamp, but was concerned about going too far and breaking the flange on the dist. Any ideas??

I have fought those before too. Try Vasoline and turning the distributer.

Forgot to say I repeatedly tried the push and twist method, but I'll try it with some vasoline tomorrow and see what happens. I can't believe I just said that with a straight face!!

Why don't you just leave it out ?

Don't use the fel-pro one, it's too thick. Go to mama Mopar and get the proper one

Thanks Mr Hemi, I'll do that, this one sure seems just a tad too fat (and it is a felpro).
