I'll get flack for this I'm sure, but call wheels, wheels. Not rims. The rim is the outer part of the wheel, not the wheel assembly.

to me, in the generic sense, wheels & rims are interchangeable if you're talking causally about it-- such as at work: hey how's that wheel look? you get the rims back on that thing? etx etx.

in the more pointed sense, wheels mean "steelies" or something stock and "rims" are the upgrade.

but again, nothing is ever set in stone. one could say: my car has chrome cragar SS wheels just as well as my car has chrome rims.

I'm a bit of the opposite- as I have gotten older I have gotten a lot less tolerant of some things... but I'm working on that. It's just my OCD working overtime.
It's not worth getting wound up over relatively minor things when there's so much rampant stupidity in the rest of the world.

Discussing calmly like gentlemen:
Wikipedia is not a very good reference. It can be easily altered and updated. And the Webster dictionary may be a great source for a lot of things, but it isn't where I am going to go for definitions on terms/items related to physics or mechanical engineering. I am 75 and it was always fuel in engines and electricity for motors.
Think about the frozen dessert Sherbet. It was spelled that way for a LONG time and properly pronounced Sure-Bet. People incorrectly pronounced it Sher-Bert for so many years, that the Webster dictionary finally accepted it and listed Sherbert as a proper spelling and pronunciation. It is possible that the true definitions of motor and engine have been twisted around so much that they have blurred. I had a lot of Physics and some engineering classes in college, and the definitions of engine and motor were set in stone back then.
Also, go to a parts store and tell them you want a starter engine, radiator fan engine, heater/AC blower engine or a windshield wiper engine and they will stare at you like you have a horn growing out of your forehead.
You are certainly welcome to call them whatever you want, but I am sticking with what I have learned over the past 60 years.

I fail to see where I argued that an electric motor does not use electricity to convert to mechanical energy, or where an internal combustion engine didn't convert fuel to mechanical energy. That was never a debate. The only thing in question here is whether varying machines used to convert some form of energy to mechanical energy can be classified as motors. It seems they can be classified as motors because they create some form of energy to motion.

Here are a few examples of items with internal combustion engines being referred to by motor.

Motorcycle
Motor car
Motorhome
Motor boat
Motor coach
Ford Tri-motor (aircraft of the 30's)
Ford Motor Company.
Mopar (Motor parts)
General Motors
Motel (Motor Hotel, servicing motorists)
Elephant Motor = 426 Hemi
Rat Motor =big block Chevy
Motor mounts
Motor grader
Motorist (a person who drives a motor car)
Motor way (road serving motor cars)

Certainly one wouldn't refer to a starter motor as an engine, it clearly does not burn fuel.

I believe the confusion may lie in the fact that there are electric motors, which provide motion, and internal combustion engines which also provide motion, both are motors, only one an electric motor.

The bottome line, both provide motion, and are therefore motors. Only one is an "electric motor".

My wife has worked retail her whole life. She has some serious patience that has trickled down to me. She is quick to point out my stupidity even though she is dumber than a box of rocks.. LOL Did I say that out loud?
