I have owned Rottweilers and boxers, as well as shiba inu and husky mixes. I dont care for the spitz breeds as their prey drive seems much higher than the others. The Rottweiler has been and is the most calm in my limited experience. The owner is responsible for the temperament of the dog if it has been raised as a puppy. Rescues have been through it in their lives and need even more trust instilled in them. Rottweilers are working dogs. They want to please you. They need a job. Left to their own they will be quite the entrepreneurs. My latest puppy will need and will get firm upbringing. Saying that, I should be buying stock in dog treats. I don't need a dog to protect me. No teeth on skin, even with play. Recall is of the upmost importance. Socialization.
