Door lock knob location.

I am in the process of tearing down on of my two 1967 Dart GTs. I have both cars sitting next to each other. As we were taking some parts off we realized that the driver side door of one car has the door lock knob in the center of the door ( between the hinge end and the latch end). All of the other doors have the knob located at the latch end of the door. Anyone know why this would be that way?

The one with the door lock knob in the center is a 69 + door


They moved the lock knob to the center in 69 too help detour theft and make it easier for an occupant to reach when sitting in the car

The door lock knob moved in 68 and again in 69. You'll find 67 vent window mounting and arm rest mounting in a 67 door different from others also.
