I recently purchased a set of Dougs SS headers, which require a mini starter. So can i use a Durango starter? I have a Durango starter on my other A body with hooker headers. Or do I have to use the high performance mini starter p5007860. Please advise. Thank you Caxey1

I don't know if the 4.7/ 5.7 engines are the same, generally what you want s a mid 90's Ram/van/ Dakota pushrod engine starter, IE 5.2/ 5.9 Magnum Some starters come with a pre-formed set of adapter terminals bolted to the native starter terminals, and generally you want to remove them.

It would be best if we knew what your working on. 65
67 Barracuda 340 biscuit mounts and power steering. Doug's SS headers new. I am thinking of using the modern Durango or Dakota starter. Says needs a mini starter. My other car is a Demon340 with Hookers and a Durango starter. I don't know why they recommend a mini starter but not a modern mini starter? Has any one installed these headers?

The new Stainless Steel headers from Doug's are the same shape as the D453 headers they sell. Maybe search Doug's D453 headers on here and you will find something about the starter. I know there is a starter from a 5.7 Hemi truck that will bolt to our old bellhousings and work, but I can't remember what year truck. It doesn't have a nose on it, but it works good, is clocked right to keep the wires clear and it is readily available.

I would contact Doug's directly and ask them. I don't see any reason why a Dakota starter wouldn't work over a high dollar "mini-starter".

This is what's on Jegs site for the D453s

  • Fits with Mopar mini-starter 312-P5249644AB.
  • Will fit 727 transmission only when used with Mopar Performance mini starter P5249644AC or equivalent.
