Drag radials

-
Nope. They aren't. I ran the last pair til I could see cords, but don't want a blowout at 126MPH!
20 years ago I was at a track and talked to the BFG rep before ordering a set of BFG 275/60/15 drags. He said run um till ya see cord not air

Nitto 555's have a relatively narrow temperature range that the like. Exceed that and they feel greasy. Don't have enough heat in them and they feel hard and spin. Get them in the sweet spot and they hook pretty good. They make both my Mopars safer to drive on the street. Radial T/A's feel like I'm driving on snow. Tall sidewalls help too. I use chalk to determine air pressure needs.

Best thing about them is that they are rated to 186 mph, so you can speed in relative safety. My fronts are only V rated so I keep it under 150 mph.
Can't afford the $1045 yah cheapskate? :poke:

Too many rules and regulations for my tastes. But, I appreciate the rattle of the old cage.

M&H Race master makes some good stuff. We used to run their slicks. Stuck like who flung dung. Their drag radials all have good reviews on Summit.

My third pair of MT drag radials are done. Need new tires, but wondering if there is a drag radial type tire the lasts longer than the Mickey's. I drive primarily street, but occasionally run street drags.
With my set up, a standard TA Radial type tire will just spin like I'm on ice. Any suggestions?
same here , I went to Hoosier 295x60d15 treaded slicks , still lites them up , but it moves while doing so...wear is close to acceptable...

600HP, 4 speed Demon with 430 gear. Home made caltrac type bars. Definitely hooks great with Mickey's but I only get around 3000 miles on a pair. About 2 summers.

Some dude I met last year SWORE by his M&H racemasters......but as he was leaving the cruise I watched him spin like crazy with the good old squeal sound. My buddy who is a bracket guy says if the squeal, they stink.

I’ve only used one set of M&H radials. They hooked.

I’ve been running M&H cheater slicks since 2003ish.

They hook.

Don't want to hijack but I'm looking for drag radials myself. I'm running hp levels close to the members above with 99% street use. I've always heard that drag radials don't work well with four speeds? Any truth to this, or is it an old wive's tale? Thanks!
I've heard that too.
Seems that drag radials want to dead hook, very difficult to do with a stick. True slicks can work well with a bit of spin off the line. Once a drag radial spins, it almost has to be pedaled to get it hooked up. Slicks usually dont.
(I have m/t et street pros, but I don't have a stick, so I don't know how true the "no Dr's for a manual" is.)

I have used M&H radials and bias ply DOT tires with positive results in two of our 4 speed street-strip cars. Qaulity adjustable shocks changed everything.

As far as spinning cold tires on the street is concerned, I race around 13psi amd street drive at 25ish and would not expect serious hook at that PSI.

Thank you for the compliment. This car is akin to the old worn-out t-shirt that feels just right. I have been heavily chastised for enjoying a low production car in this manner but as with all things it is ephemeral. Someday it will go to another owner or my kids and someone might try to do something different with it. Who knows maybe I will get past retirement and find time to do some body work. I have a new package tray and a restored dash pad. I would rather have the interior redone for my own comfort : D the only thing I can see from inside the car is the hood and I spray painted that with rattle can organisol. Did the last coat in the direct sun so it didn't upstage the rest of its exterior finish

I think it's cool as heck. That's what it was made for.

One thing the bias tire helps with on a stick car is cushioning the shock the tire and everything else back there sees. A stiff sidewall radial doesn't cushioning the hit like a bias tire does. I can see that help in parts breakage as well as hooking on the initial hit.

By DOT do you mean the cheater slick or a full tread tire?

Agreed. Drag radials have a rep for being harder on drivetrain components than slicks (breakage).

What size tire is that and what size wheel is it on?
275/60 15 on 8 inch American Racing aluminum wheels. Had to use contact cement when mounted. For some reason the passenger side used to move in the wheel a bit. Been marking a dot where the valve stem is. No problems since "glued".
