Part numbers question. I am working on locating the driver side mirror. It is the two post manual. I have come across two part numbers that look like what I need. 2299574 vs. 2299521. What is the difference between the two and will the 521 work on the 66 Dart? I think the spacing between holes may be the same. Also how can I tell if it is OE or aftermarket? Would the part number be missing? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Also is there a parts numbers list somewhere. I could only find a book that was $300 - yikes!

and if it's not OE and you install it and you have to remove the mirror to see the numbers, you would spend a huge premium to have those little numbers for what reason?????

With an even and odd number for the last number I would say the 521 is a left and the 574 is a right. This is common practice in the OEM parts systems.

Thank you for your response! My reasoning is more from the standpoint of understanding what part came with the car for ordering purposes. There are so many parts that I am unclear of which one went with his car originally. I do not want to mess up and put a Ford part on a Mopar car just because it fits. Just looking to see what mirrors came with his car. Not going everything original, but he does have a pretty stock car with a good amount of oe parts. It is a daily driver though and he just needs a mirror to get driving to school.

The 574 is a mirror package, which probably included the gasket and maybe the chrome screw and retaining nut. The 521 is the casting number on the mirror base. Both are the correct mirror for a '66 Dart driver's side with the twin post type mirror. There were no factory RH mirrors for that year and model. A LH one will work on the RH side to a certain extent depending on how and where you mount it.

Twin posty mirrors weren't available on 66 Darts. The "Hooded" one pictured was for Chryslers. Remote control, Match Mate (manual) or Conical only.
Here is the mirrors available in 1966 out of the accessory catalog. The 1970 Hamtramck Registry - 1966 Accessories Catalog Slideshow (Page 1)

The LH twin post mirror was standard equipment from the factory. The cable remote LH was optional at an additional charge. A RH mirror was not an option from the factory, but, it was a dealer installed option.
