I have new lower ball joints for a drum brake application with 1/2" holes. Can I simply enlarge the holes to 5/8" to work with 73+ disc brakes? Is the a physical difference in the shape, etc?

My recollection is that they are spaced differently?

No.

I had my 1969 drum spindles resized for the 73 and newer sized ball joint. RMS did it for me.

You are talking about the tapered hole for the upper stud, right?

I thought the OP was talking about the lower ball bolt holes
