First I looked up E85 here on this part of the Forum and got a feel for what may or may not be needed but just a feel. I was wondering about things as far as different fuels as I've had a thread about that before. Used to run 100ll for the first few years. It ran great with it I love it it smelled good ran clean wasn't messy everything was the best about it except having to go get it is a pain.
This summer I tried a mixture of 110 leaded Sunoco with 50% 92 non ethanol. I think with dual quads I won't have too much problem at least getting enough fuel up there I could run another fuel pump no problem and have each carburetor with its own fuel line and fuel pump. I think more the problem is my Edelbrock carburetors. From what I researched it seems as it's much more expensive to convert them? I can get e85 pretty close by and I believe at a fairly reasonable price. Of course the idea of mixing E85 also crosses my mind but obviously I wouldn't try without some kind of knowledge. I'm no chemist.
The dual quad is a 625 Carter on the back and a 600 Edelbrock on the front. When I ran the hundred L L I had it dialed in pretty good at about 14.2 or 14.5 at idle and about 12 5 or 12 4 at wide open throttle and all that drop off a point at least when I did the gas mixing this summer. Of course I hear where the E85 is a lot leaner it seems like but a lot of volume needs to be put out which I feel I can do as it always seems to be running rich. And I've heard a lot of people say using hundred LL makes things run a lot leaner.
Anyways any insight on this very new to me subject especially some experience would be great and appreciated thank you..

From recollection. .. ethenol has about 75% the energy of gas. Wouldnt you need to increase the fuel delivery and jetting by about 25% larger to keep correct air fuel ratio?
I had a 1992 variable fuel (m85 - as in methanol ) chevy and it would run on e85 no problem. On gas i could drive 400 miles on a tank. On E85 only 300 miles on a tank.
For what ever it worth

E 85 makes power that's no lie but I hate it.

It STINKS SO BAD. It will NOT wash off your hands and gives me an instant headache...

You do realize I was planning on putting it in my gas tank right? What does it smell like when it burns?

Noting smells as good as PJ1 and methalhydrate ! That says race !

It took as I remember much smaller metering rods and jets in both carbs to get the seemingly leaner burning 100ll to the 14.2 idle and 12.5 wot.
The 1406 tuning guide shows a 12% jetting increase available from the stock setting. Both carbs as they sit are probably 12% de-jetted.
Now with the 110/92 mix it's running an ugly 13.4-7 idle and 11.1-3 wot.
I'm thinking put biggest primary and secondary jets and smallest meetering rods that fit in both carbs, connect them up one to one, and buy a couple gallons of E85 and see what the wideband says?

Jpar get on to Flyfish on here , he runs the E85 and can give you some insight.

It stinks when it burns and it gets on your hands when changing jets, then it's in the shop and the shop stinks.

Personslly i never had an issue with e85 smell or any other factor except cost. If it was cheap enough and gas was high enough i used it ...factoring in the fuel economy loss

I'm sure 70aarcuda dose also. They both probably read most of the racers Forum stuff. If they have something to ad and feal like it they will. I'm sure both run something other than Edelbrocks.

J Par... don't forget to thank the taxpayers for your E85 price at the pump. Every time I filled up my Chevy with E85 someone would ask me about it and I would thank them for the taxpayer paid discount for the fuel. (just getting a tiny bit political ;^) )

Everything is on converting Holley carburetors
Just basic info - percentages etc. I bet Edelbrock has some engineers who would talk to you about deeper modifications if you called them.

Everything is on converting Holley carburetors. I probably won't be able to make the Edelbrocks work.

There is someone doing E85 on edelbrocks out there. I just can't remember who. I'll think on it.

Way, Way WAY back in the day I used to buy methanol at that place on 162 and Gleason. In fact, I was still in diapers as I'm only 39 but yes, I remember that place.

It's in a little bit of a rough area and just a really old space-age Cheapo gas station next to a place that buys plasma.

J par do u have a strip kit for them?. I think I got 2 kits and a few 625 Carter carbs. Kim
I just got some of the old Jets and metering rods from when I first got them. I got the Edelbrock 1406 with the car and the Carter 625 from a Chevy guy who couldn't get the choke to work.
Oddly enough I looked at the chart for the 1406 and tried to get the Leanest settings and put them in both carburetors. I think that was just primaries though I'm not sure I may have just matched secondaries with one or the other or not LOL?
