Does anyone know what the red and white wires, now tied together (with black wires) are for?

Looking under my carpeting on the passenger side of my 1972 Duster I saw the seat belt wiring harness and the wiring to the seat belt seems fine...but I see another couple of wires that are now wired together.

I don't think that's factory electrical tape there. The shop manual wiring diagrams were not much help to my untrained eyes.

I haven't driven my car since last fall so I don't recall if the seat belts buzz if not connected...I think the light in the dash does come on.

If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated before I put my seats back in.

Thanks,
Paul

You don't need all that junk. Go find "the relay" I think under the hood, that has the big obvious reset button. There should be two yellowish wires in the connector, one has a tracer. You should be able to wire them together and eliminate the whole rest of the mess.
