E body new shocks too short

Bought new shocks for challenger today and they are about an inch to short. I have jack under rear end with all weigh jacked up. When I took old shocks out I had to beat with hammer when they cam out rear dropped like it was under pressure. I had to replace rear shock mount crossmember.
