hey guys. i have been looking for someone who lists a torque converter for my 1963 valiant. its a slant six/904. i rebuilt the tranny and i dont know what condition my torque converter is in. is there a way i can check it. do these things wear out? i went to a transmission shop before school yesterday, but after 5 minutes of standing there and no one saying a word to me. i said screw 'em and left. thanks for any help.

Aaron,

If the surface the front pump seal rides on is grooved, it's trash. It'll never seal regardless of whether or not the converter itself is ok. Just replace it.

thanks for the help guys. trust me, i did not want to put the old one back in. everything else is new, looks like i will be ordering one from one of these guys. thanks again

I believe you can use the front pump, drum and input shaft from a later transmission. You'd have to open up the transmission, but converter selection should improve dramatically.

yeah i was thinking that too. i saw that mopar muscle did an artice on the same subject, but with a early cable operated 727.

the frt pump shaft is removable with just a c clip change the shaft an run a later model converter . spline diff, one coarse an one fine .
