Can anyone tell us if this huge pile of Bird Sh*t welding is normal to find
under the bend of the upper shock mounts on a pre-67 A-body?

It certainly insn't this way on a 67 and up A-body. If anyone has a shock out
and a flashlight they would be able to tell.

I wouldn't call it "normal" but I've seen that a lot. All of the 64-65 cars I've worked on had some pretty sorry looking welds there. I have cleaned them up and re-welded on my cars. I always wondered if Chrysler Corp. was experimenting with an offering of a "third grade introduction to welding class"........ I've seen some pretty sorry looking welds on these old cars but the welds in that area seem to take the cake.

Nope not normal. Here is a picture of mine.

Thanks guys....looks like no milling will be needed on the HDK upper shock mount.

FYI.....
The reasons I use that upper mount is to

a) tie to supports (bolt on)
b) move the upper mounting point slightly outward
c) provide support precisely where the bugar weld was/is

Mine look nice and smooth just like prrc's. No weld at that location al all. This is on a 65 Cuda

Mine were like that on my 66 Barracuda.
