-
sorry to here about this OC.my advise don't tell or teach any thing get your phone ##s out of there call your customers and tell them sum nut bag will be doing your job.get with one of the other co.and make him wish he never herd of that co.

Sorry to hear about this. I guess take it as a blessing that you got some advanced notice. Good luck on the job search.

Sorry to hear this OC. As I posted a while back, I just got let go from a job I held for 18 years. I have not found anything as of yet. It is really scary out there. This unemployment thing is way worse then the 10% the government is telling people.
Anyway, keep the chin up.

Last year a company a friend works for here gave a guy his pink slip at the Christmas party in front of all his co-workers and their spouses. He was asked to get up and leave before the meal too!

That is just brutal and demeaning. WTF is up with that?

A worker would be @ his/her desk, and get a tap on the shoulder, turn around, and there would be their manager, along with a security guard, to escort them to Personnel for their exit interview, where, they would be shown the door from there. All of their possessions would be gone thru, and boxed up, then shipped to their house.

FF

That's how I got laid off. :angry7:

Ocdart,

This just means that another door is opening for you. I wish you luck and success in job search and if things get tough, never back down. There's a better job out there for you, I know it. 8)

It's been said that losing a job a like having a death in the family and people go through the same stages of grief. I think that's true with the exception of the "panic" stage that I first felt when I got the "tap on the shoulder". My first thought was "How the hell am I going to feed to my dogs". Not a good feeling.

Keep your head up and I'm betting that you've made some really good contacts over the years. People are your best resource. :)

Well, it finally happened. I was informed last Tuesday that my job is ending on 12/31. "Happy Holidays" turned into "Bah, humbug".
The company I worked for was purchased by a foreign-owned worldwide corporation 3 years ago and they've been purging the original employees through various layoffs over the years. Outsourcing the manufacturing we used to do until all is left of my product is final assembly and some calibration work on existing systems.
I've been with the product for over 7 years and was originally part of a 5-person team worldwide responsible for sales of a specialty aviation-market product that's been the best-respected product in the market since it was first developed it over 50 years ago. For the past 2 years I've been the only salesperson responsible for worldwide sales.
Funny thing is that now my boss has to assume those responsibilities and he doesn't have much of a clue on the product and what I did to market the product.
It's such a specialty item that there are only 3 manufacturers in the world.
Both my wife and I are SoCal natives so we're hopeful my 20+ years in aerospace/aviation item sales will turn up something here.
Oh well, at least I have a paycheck until the end of the year.
I sure am sorry to hear this ocdart :angry7: What ever you do don't change your phone number, you boss will have his hands full and need ya back  I would hope :happy10: Sorry to hear the lay offs hit your area bud, My son was cut to 32 hours a week and they laid about 20 people off, He works for Eng. ink. They build power units. The screwed up and laid there draftsman off and got a print out on a shell for a power unit and built them and they did not fit  My son said it cost them more than a years wages it would have cost to keep there draftsman on the job
They called him back part time and waiting for things to pick up.
It was a bad call on the management to lay him off.
I wish the best for you and your family bud

Man that really stinks OC. I'm sorry to hear it but I sure wish you the best in finding a job that's even better than what you had.

Hang in there OC. I think everything happens for a reason, even though it's hard to accept that when you are about to loose your job. Keep your chin up bud, and best of luck finding new employment.

Very sorry to hear OC.
Also laid off for a while now.
I tried to find you at Vegas last year, I hope that things turn around for both of us so we can afford to get there next year.
Hope to see ya then.

PS. off work as a pilot.

shoot OCdart...that sucks...hopin' everything works out for you....

Aloha Mike

Sorry to here that ocdart. They are saying things are getting better but people I know are still loosing there jobs left and right. My Mom works at Lockheed. She told me they are hiring for the F-35 project. Don't know if that is an option for you but I thought I would tell you any way. Good luck to you. Hope you find some thing out there.

Become a consultant and bill your old boss twice your salary, becuase where else are they going to get the info?

The last couple of hours I spent in the office last Wednesday was for his 'training'. I could tell from the questions that he was asking that he doesn't have a clue about the product.

Did you tell him the correct answers??? I sure would not.

Back in 1985 I worked for a large company that was bought out by a British firm. I had just been transferred to Wilmington, N.C. (at least that is where I had a PO box) along with another driver that had moved there 3 months earlier.
New management called all the drivers in and told them they are no longer needed as they had contracted the freight out to JB Hunt.
The driver that had just moved there was livid. His wife had also transferred ( with another company) and 2 days previous they had closed on their new (custom built) house.
The 'new manager' thought that was really funny. It was until he landed in the hospital! All of us drivers stuck together and said he must of slipped on the floor.

Due to the poor service that they got from JB Hunt, they went out of business (at a huge loss) about 8 months later.

Ouch! I'm really sorry to hear about that, I work in the aerospace as well, and there has been a tremendous amount of lay-off's lately, Bombardier just recently. I'm fortunate that the corporation I'm working for is solid, and try to keep all the work in North America.

If you don't mind me asking, what line of manufacturing were you in? And what overseas company over-took your company? Send me a PM if you feel this is necessary.

I'd like to keep my eyes open as to who's who out there.

Our company just sold 1 1/2 million shares to ??, nowhere near a major share older, but...

This has got to be the worst time of year for that to happen to you guys, wish I could help somehow.

All the best!
Giles

Very sorry to hear about the layoff! You sound like you are already out there in the market looking, keep after it and you'll land something good like Ramcharger!

Sorry to hear this OC. As I posted a while back, I just got let go from a job I held for 18 years. I have not found anything as of yet. It is really scary out there. This unemployment thing is way worse then the 10% the government is telling people.
Anyway, keep the chin up.

It's been worse than what we've been told for a long time. You can't hardly get hired by a fast food place around here.

Unemployment has been near the 10% range for eight years here. Now its close to 13%.
Things will get better, just hang in there and don't give up looking for a job.

Sorry to hear about your job loss. I work at a Air force depot here in Oklahoma city and they are hiring 350-400 mechanics. I know that does not help in your line but maybe somebody out there may need a job.
