Hey guys I recently purchased a carb from a fellow FABO member and have a question. Currently it's a manual choke so I'm debating whether to purchase the electric conversion kit. I've used manual chokes on tractors before and they seem simply enough. However, in a daily driven street vehicle would it pretty much be the same?
 
I live in the Pacific NW. It does get cold up here, and I'd prefer a manual choke. Having said that, many of the old Holley DP chokes don't work W.A.S. without some serious "redesign."

I ran an AFB for years on a SB in my old FJ-40 (they were Carters then) at it worked really good.

Do you prefer the manual choke for control of fuel during warm up? It doesn't get nearly as cold here in Southern California so it makes me think I'll be fine with the manual choke. I'm just wondering if they are tricky or if it's pretty much the mentality that if " I can use one on a tractor I can use it easily on a car"?
 
In S Cal you could probably get by most of the time with no choke. I used to yank the choke out of my DP's and just use the cable --when needed-- to get the thing up on the fast idle cam for warm-up.

You can always do the same thing, or adjust the link so you get more fast idle/ less choking.

Frankly I think where you are an electric is a waste of time/ money

What are you talking about? MY Edlebrock sure as hell has a fast cam
