What is the best way to get the "goo" off of the inner fender well that had leaked from the Electronic Ignition Box? Thanks!

I've used a heat gun and paint sticks. Gets it warm, wood doesn't scratch the paint. It's painful. I hate it when they do that.
I have used mineral spirits. It is a slow process and take a little elbow grease but it didn't harm the paint.
Why cant a thin piece of steel be put between ecu and mounting surface?
I find they leak alot less once placed in a waste receptacle

My brother-in-laws scamp has both the ecu, and the voltage reg doing this. There can't be any epoxy left from as much of a mess is on the fender/firewall.
