so ive had an msd box on my car for a few years now and someone recently told me i have to remove my ballast resistor or it wont let the box function properly?

i went from a points distributor to electronic so i think its still a points ballast resistor

so my question is.. am i losing power because of this?

The MSD instructions do say to bypass it. I doubt your loosing much power though. I had mine hooked up through the ballast resistor first and then ran accross where it said to bypass it so I did. Couldn't tell even the slightest difference in how it ran. There is one good point to bypassing it though, they are prone to fail. By bypassing it you've eliminated one possible fault in your car.

what we do (@ SS And AFX) is just weld a wire onto the back side so it looks stock but works with no issues!

dont bypass it...just get rid of it...wire according to msd instructions

You get the same effect either way. Rather then cut my new wiring harness and leave a empty hole in the firewall where the ballast resistor was screwed to I bypassed it with a small jumper that's tucked down and away. JMHO
