I was looking at a 360 engine today that I am thinking of purchasing. It is a 360 that came out of a 74 Cuda and has been sitting for 2 years. I tried to get a look at the engine stamping and at the front driver side of the engine I found the following: CW360R3578. I couldn't tell if that number was on the head or the engine block itself ( was looking at it from a funny angle ). Can someone please tell me what those numbers mean.

Thanks.

CW360R3578.

The C is likely a G;

G - Series (model year) 1971

W - Windsor engine assembly plant

360 - 360 CID

R - Regular fuel reccomended

3578 - Date from the 10,000 day calendar - May 14, 1971

There should be four more numbers on the block after the 3578?

Also, if you look at the VIN pad on the passenger side, it will tell you the model year & assembly plant for the car it originally came out of. Being a 360 in a 1971 car, it is likely from a B body.
