engine wont start after sitting

i have a 70 dart 360 i recently had the trannsmision out of it and and it sat for a month once i got the trans back in it i put some headers on and i finally just got it back together. i went to turn it over and nothing until the battery died twice. now i know on ignition probs to check the ballast and coil and all that but could that stuff just go bad from sitting there. or could anything else have just gone bad the car ran great before pullin it in the garage so i dont know.

yeah i can smell the gas the first time i tried to start it

Check your ground at back of motor,usually attached at back of block/cylinder head/bell housing.

Did the engine tilt back far enough to put distributer cap against firewall ?

Check for spark first, then get back to us.

ok so i tested the coil for juice and it is getting 6.75 volts at the input power and 1.5 volts going threw the cable. are these numbers correct or is the power off maybe it should be getting more power to it or sending more power to the cap????
