Very Happy from this past weekend Guys!!
I haven't bracket raced in 25 years I think?
It was very humid and warm - took a few time runs, car ran 11.33 - 11.31
Dialed an 11.30 - the guy I raced red lighted first round, I ran 11.30 so thought I should dial a .29
Next couple runs had I had a better light and touched the brake towards the line -win, win.
Semi finals a car dropped out, I got the bye run - ran a .29 so I dialed a .28 for the final.
Ran against an 11.90 Gremlin.
He had a .06 light, I had a .09 (not my best but I didn't want to red light)
Caught him in 3rd gear - he ran 11.96 (.06 over) I ran 11.284 with a touch of the brakes at the line, I may have broke out if I didn't!!!
But I won a Trophy!! :)
I know it's just a $2.00 trophy, but it really got the competitive juices flowing!!
After having this car for so long, and putting in the time and effort my friends and I did restoring it, this is like a huge "I Still Got It" moment!
My birthday was yesterday, family all came over and had me tell all the stories about the day....
I'm really blessed for an old fart!!
Thanks to everyone on here, I've asked plenty of advice and learned a lot being on here.
What's Next!?!?!?

Flashback 40 years ago when I won the High School Bracket race at Great Lakes Dragaway - I definitely had my dad watching over me.
Where the heck did that time go?

Old farts rule! Great story!!

Congratulations Wally!! You clearly DO still have it. It takes a great car and driver, and a touch of luck to win. It all aligned for you. I couldn't be happier to see your fantastic Demon in the winner's circle. Well done sir!!

Awesome! Sounds like you still got it... What's your combo in that car?

Thank you all!!
Its a 360 based, .030 over, 4.125 crank = 420 cubic inches. 750 Holley (Maybe needs an 850) Super Victor intake
Bullet Hyd. Roller - .570 lift, Hughes stage 1 ported Eddy heads - about 10:1 compression. TTI headers, 904 transmission w/PTC 4000 stall converter. 4:10 gear w/SS springs. 9x28 M/T radial slick.
Car hooks great, best 60’ time is 1.48.

That's a really good 60 for a low 11s car!
(See if you can borrow a 850 or 950 from a buddy. I bet you'll be quicker)
When my car lifted the rear that much, there was NO WAY it was gonna pull a tire, And my low eleven car was never anywhere close to a 1.48. I would have been ecstatic for a 1.55!

Sounds a little similar to my combo (340/417 stroker at about 10.5:1 compression) though I'm only running some ported J heads. 727 with 4000 stall Turbo Action converter. 4.10 gears as well with a GV overdrive, but all the suspension is all set up for street. Looking forward to seeing what it will do at the Mopar Showdown at Rock Falls this year. Running 295/55/15 MT ET Street Drag Radials.

Good luck not making a smoke show with that combo!

Yup, we'll see. I brought it there last year for the first and only time at a track with it, but at the last minute I had an issue with my Holley 750 that I couldn't get sorted out in time, so I swapped it out with a Holley 600 I had in a box, just so I could make the show that I had already registered for. It hooked perfect with that smaller carb but only ran a best time of 12.85. I still had tons of fun and was glad I had the spare carb on hand. It was noticeably slower by the seat of the pants feel, but did better than I expected it to with that 600 on it. It was never intended to be a track car when I built it but it will be fun and interesting to see how it does this year.
It weighs 3310 without me (205lbs) and a half tank of gas, for whatever that's worth.
