Hello everyone

Im in the process of gathering all my parts for 340 / 4 speed conversion to my 65 valiant /6. I have exhaust manifolds 2465847 and 2465769 and am looking for information about head pipe options. Im looking to just run a single exhaust for now, and i can handle a little fabrication. what type / size flange is used to mate to these manifols? anyone have reccomendations of exhaust pieces to use? Id like to buy an entire kit, just not sure i have the cash right now. If i can make my own id like to give it a try.

Thanks

the 5874 is ball-joint 2.25"

i don't know what the 769 is, but the prefix 246 would suggest that it's early and ball-joint as well .

tti makes some wonderful head pipes for dual exhaust. i've used them several times. highly recommend.

What heads are you using? 340 heads with 273 manifolds don't flow very well.....or seal well either. You'd be better off saving your money and getting some headers with the proper flanges and tube diameters and go dual exhaust. Either that, or build a set of 920 or 675 casting heads with bigger valves and porting them a bit for decent flow. The stock manifolds will still be a choking point at higher RPM's, but, at least they will flow better and seal properly to the ports. Another option would be to use 340 manifolds and have a custom set of pipes built. The trick will be the driver's side. Manual steering will be a must, and getting everything to fit around the column and clutch linkage will take a bit of doing. Some Magnum manifolds are said to fit better, but, I haven't tried that setup and don't know how well they will fit and flow with your combination.

Those original 273 manifolds will work fine. You can order the Commando 2 1/2 exhaust from Waldron's Exhaust in aluminized steel or stainless steel or from Accurate Exhaust. I ported the manifolds on the top and sides without letting the flanges getting too thin. Then I ran gold RTV with 318 gaskets. My 273 had 72 340 "J" heads and would easily run up to 7,000 rpm with plenty of power and never leaked.
