Hello all... I know nothing about Plymouth duster but recently came across one and the guy is selling. It's a 73 and he has owned it for about 5 years. It does have a 440 motor, torqueflite 727. Supposedly the engine came from a 76 motor home and the guy did some head work to lower the compression. It has front discs and only minor rust bubbles. I have yet to see it, so I would like to know what to look for? He's asking $12k and he says its a steal at this price. Again I know nothing so I'm not sure. Reason for selling is because he's moving and wants a boat instead. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks

See if these help.

"Did some head work to lower the compression"??? On a motor home engine?? If it's anything past a 73, the compression was already 8.5/1, how much lower can you go!! Are you sure he didn't raise the compression by milling the heads???

It seems like a descent looking ride. I'm sure he's got mor than that in it. But ultimately you have to decide if u would b happy with it for that price.

Nah. He said he lowered the compression.

That doesn't make sense to me. Why he would lower the compression. Does he have paperwork from the headwork.

Hard to tell from the pics, but if it's super clean and runs well, that would be the top of the range. Like lenky1 said, he's probably got more than 12K in it.

He has a build sheet. Haven't seen it yet.

So what would be an average price for such car?

I would ask to see it. U also have to keep n mind 73 and up aren't worth as much as the 70-72 dusters. If it was me I wouldn't go over 10k in my opinion

Nah. He said he lowered the compression.

The only way to lower the compression using the heads would be to make the combustion chambers larger.
That would take a lot of money and time to do, just so you can lose horsepower.
I bet he meant that they shaved the heads to increase compression and he just got it backwards.
If you do buy the car, get rid of that air cleaner.
They are known to be unsafe if the car backfires through the carb, thus lighting the foam on fire........

the sellers figures its a "steal" when he has more $$$ in it than that price. that has NOTHIN to do with its salable value. buubles? that's rust under there, body work and repaint?????? think about that.

you just have to ask yourself what is that car worth to you in as is condition, and how many $$ do you want in it to have it in the condition you require????

if someone wants say $12000 for a certain car, then ask yourself if you spend $12000 for a car, do you want a 440 transpanted duster, or say look for a big block 69 roadrunner, or whatever.

So the seller seems rushed as he needs to sell by end of month. He said he would lower to $10k. I told him $9k. He did inform me that each rear quarter panel have abou a quarter size rust bubbles. It's about 2 hours away reason why I fully haven't seen it, but from a sound video that he sent me, the cars purrs...

For that kind of money and being only 2 hours away I wouldn't spend a dime unless I saw it with my own two eyes and drove it.

I agree. If I decide I would definitely take the drive. Just trying to find out if it's even worth the time and money.
