what wires are suppose to be hot besides black and red one to the ammmeter? the only thing working is my horn and starter turns over if you jump the relay. i have no power at all to the ign switch or the lights

sounds like the fusible link is bad. it is near the bulhead connectors on the engine side of the firewall.

Yep the red and black at amp gauge should be tied together if gauge is out.
If you saw one spark there the fusable link did its job (burned open).
YearOne has the exact replacement. Any autoparts will have a substitute.

Do yourself and you car a favor and bypass that old amp guage. It's a fire hazard waiting for a place to happen.

A quick and easy test for now, take the left connector wire off the amp guage and move it over and connect it on the right terminal with the existing wire - ie, both on the right hand stud. This will by-pass the amp guage and take that potential problem out of the equation. The other thing to check is your neutral safety switch - is it connected and working? And as the other guys mentioned, the fusible link. Good luck.
